Teens
Being a teen is one of the most difficult times in life! You’re teen is navigating some major changes while also trying to make some major life decisions. Not to mention the constant comparison of themselves to others. Smart phones and social media add another layer to this already difficult time. Even if your child doesn’t have a phone or socials they may still feel some anxiety (along with so many other feelings) about being left out in some way.
So many teens think their parents wouldn’t understand their problems so having a safe person they can share these things with can be so beneficial for them to start communicating these struggles. Working with teens typically means discussing how to navigate difficult peer relationships, communicating with parents and family members in a healthy way, setting boundaries with themselves and others, and learning to cope with difficult things that happen in life.
Adults
Whether you’re learning what being an adult actually is (college stressors, dating, even making new friends after college), going through parenting struggles (postpartum, becoming a stay at home parent, mom guilt, military family), or just wanting to process your own trauma, therapy can be a great place to start processing your experience.
Let’s be real, a lot of adults these days were taught from a young age to suppress their feelings, not express them. No one talked about the difficult things in life, but recently people are posting more and more on social media about their personal struggles with mental health and going to therapy. People are starting to feel less alone when they see other people going to and talking about their experiences in therapy. This shift has given people who would have never thought they needed therapy permission to at least try it out!
